It's Always Interesting....
So, Saturday was the Easthampton fireworks, and thank you Easthampton, you did not disappoint! Neither the fireworks, nor the people!
Yes, it's my hometown, but sometimes I wonder where the rest of the residents came from. We live next to the high school, which also happens to be next to the park, and fields where the fireworks are held. Every year, people either start out stupid (read: drunk) walking by on their way to the fireworks, or get stupid while they are there, and walk home in the dark. This has lead to many interesting evenings sitting on the porch after the fireworks, watching our lawn get destroyed, though this year, we had to watch out! We just planted a tree. I had to tell a kid to not touch it earlier in the evening. A pile of young people walked by with the equally sized pile of kids and stopped in front of our house. The kids decided to take over the lawn while the parents ignored them waiting for their friends....just let them run all over the place. The kid was looking right at me and started touching the wire mesh we have protecting the trunk. I had to say something...trees aren't cheap. And I was nice. All I said was don't touch the tree. He stopped, and the parents decided it was time to leave.
Anyway we've had stuff left on our lawn (trash, cell phones, a pocket knife this year), the lawn trampled, and oh yes, people passed out on the lawn. In this case, the police drive by on their golf cart, pick them up, and take them down to the station to de-pickle.
Even though there were a few trees in the way, the fireworks were pretty. Here is a montage, if you will. Oh, and Ed and I shared fried dough...mmmm :)
Made me want to go to Disney. Disney knows how to do fireworks...not to long, just enough and close enough together...no weird "are they done" moments, and set to music. Then again, fireworks don't sound the same down there...no mountains to bounce off.
Before the fireworks, we went to the park for Abbie's graduation party. Ed and I had "custody" of Chelsea and Billy for a little while at the playground.
Ed and Chelsea did some climbing (and Grace too).
While I pushed Billy on the swings. Of course, once you start, you can't stop!!
I had big knitting plans this weekend, but my body had different plans...WAY too tired. So, Ed and I went to see Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer...eh...it was alright...
I started Harry Potter scarf 1 on my rosewood needles at the recommendation of Anna, because they look like a wand...made sense.
So, yes, after Wednesday, we do not have any real social plans until the end of July. I plan to enjoy it immensely. Of course, I have a project I MUST finish by July 20th...a pair of socks...knit at the same time...on one needle :)
