So Proud
He actually did it. Andy Haber graduated from high school!
Ed and I attended graduation on Friday night and it was....HOT. It had to have been close to 100 degrees in the gym, and I know it was hot on my graduation night, but Friday...was hotter!
So, yes, Andy graduated, as class President no less. There was a time when we weren't sure he was going to make it there, but thanks to Abbie, he did. It's an actual diploma and everything! We are so proud of him!
Here we are being proud of him. I can't believe he was only 12 when Ed and I got together...not
even a teenager yet. He used to hitch a ride with Ed's friends to the same shows that my friends and I would go to. Who would have known that as we watched this little 11/12 year old crowd surf that in a few (sometimes trying) years I would be so proud of him for graduating.
His speech was good...in true Andy style, of course! He recited "Green Eggs and Ham" as his election speech, and it actually worked. I may be biased, but I think his speech was the best. It was also one of the shortest. A good quality in a speech when you have hundreds of people packed into a gym on a Friday night...a HUMID Friday night (as you can see from the shine on our faces...I could call it pride, but why lie!).
And, let's not forget Abbie. Graduating class Treasurer, National Honor S
ociety Member, and all around fun person.
There were also a few moments in the graduation speeches that Ed and I shared that can only happen with six years behind you and your high school graduation. Things were said like "you will never be able to butter teachers up the same way you could in high school." That's a lie. "You can still stay in touch with your high school friends." That's a lie...well, sort of. You can stay in touch with them, but if you do, and you aren't at the same school, it just won't be the way it was. And that's pretty much what it's all about. It will never be like it was when you were in school. You can either chose to live in the past, or you can move on. You can say, I had a great time in high school, and looking back on it is fun, but you can never go back. Things change too much. People will move on, and that's okay. That's what we do.
I think they should have someone who graduated speak at graduations. To let the class know that there is life after high school, and even though this may be a sad, scary time, it's totally worth it.
Anyway, I'm proud of Andy (and Abbie). He's come a long way. Can't wait to see what he does next (though I'm a little scared!).
